Sean M. Palfrey is the man behind Imago Mortis. Originally starting it as a small home business in 2007 to design and produce a range of t-shirts that didn’t reflect the over produced and commercialised arm of Gothic/Heavy Metal fashions. Opting for pure white-on-black designs in the style of the 1980s underground, he incorporated elements of occult symbology, medieval macabre, renaissance anatomical art, and literary references. The designs were well received with Terrorizer Magazine describing them as “Classy Occultism”.
Sean’s interest in photography also began to be gradually incorporated into the sphere of Imago Mortis. First simply by photographing his merchandise on willing model and friend Alivya V. Free. But soon after, with the purchase of an SLR, he began to develop his skills with a series of shoots with alternative models as well as re-enactors. Sean’s photography feature such themes as vintage fashions, antique style editing, as well as sharp colours, stark monochrome, as well as punk, fetish and gothic styles.
As of 2011 Sean aims to follow another path and indulge himself in personal projects that utilise antique forms of analogue photography and print making to develop in the fine art field of photography. Along side this, Sean is keen to branch out into mixed media artwork using these techniques as a basis.
With the creation of "Version 3" of imagomortis.co.uk, Sean has incorporated more of his interests into the construction of the website. From the early days of the internet hyper novels incorporating links into prose, through to promotional ‘hidden’ sites for bands and artists, people have always tried to add that extra dimension to their websites. The idea is that, instead of being a mere portal to his portfolio, the website should allow the visitor to explore the themes and ideas at work within the artist’s mind and become an extension of the art itself.
In addition to artistic pursuits Sean has a BA(hons) degree in Creative Writing as well as a Masters degree in Journalism. Sean is also involved in two musical projects: Atra Mors & Paralyse ENF (formerly DragonKiller) - the former is a blend of Gothic Rock and Doom Metal dubbed " Heavy Gothic", the latter is more industrial and experimental in its focus. Atra Mors are currently signed to Silence Beckons Records, while Paralyse ENF is still in the demo stages despite having contributed a couple of remixes to bands under the DragonKiller moniker.
